an Earth Day author talk
Gardener, author and former long-time Maplewood resident Elise Howard talks about beautiful, beneficial native plant swaps for some of the most common landscaping plants in New Jersey gardens. She explains why it's important for all gardeners to include some native plants in home landscapes, and how native plants not only support wildlife and ecosystems, but also require fewer fertilizers, pesticides, mulch, and maintenance -- leaving more time for garden pleasures!
Elise Howard has grown a garden everywhere she has lived since childhood, up and down the Eastern seaboard between Virginia and Maine. She has gardened in window boxes, suburban backyards, apartment courtyards, and on the rural coastline.
