Botanical Art Workshop
Patterns in Nature and Art
Tuesday, August 04
6:00pm - 8:00pm
Maplewood Hilton Branch
Meeting RoomParticipants will observe and sketch from examples and create botanical prints inspired by patterns in nature. Led by local teaching artist Karen Fuchs.
This workshop will focus on the beauty, design and function of patterns, forms and structures found in the natural world, as well as in design and art. Natural specimens and images are shared to explore growth patterns such as branching, spiral/Fibonacci, and symmetry in nature. Cross-disciplinary concepts between art, design, science, and math are discussed. Participants will observe and sketch from examples and create botanical prints inspired by this scrutiny.
Karen Fuchs is a teaching artist and designer with a background in textile design and interior architecture. She has taught these art and nature workshops and led professional development talks at the MOMA, Parsons School of Design, MAD Museum, Pratt, New York Botanical Gardens, NAEA Conference, Montclair Art Museum, Young Audiences and the NJ Audubon where she had a solo exhibit of my work. Her audiences have always been diverse, encompassing a wide range of backgrounds and ages, from kids to lifelong learners. Her own work includes cyanotypes, printmaking, drawing, textiles, collage and assemblage.
