Are you brave enough to follow the six female Underground Astronauts down a crack in a pitch black cave to find bones?  Are you a detective ready to uncover the clues explaining the mysteries of the standing stones at Stonehenge?  Are you hungry enough to track down the many stories hidden in the food we eat -- with ice cream as a reward?

The award-winning author Marc Aronson will take all who are willing on these journeys -- and more, as we share the marvels and pleasures of nonfiction.
For tweens, teens, families, and kids ages 6 and older

Thank you to the Friends of the Maplewood Library for making this program possible!

Reading the Bones: Homo Naledi and the Mysteries of Human Evolution (with John Mead)
★ "An exceptional nonfiction work that traces the finding of a new human relative, Homo naledi, and the discovery’s impact on contemporary society... Propulsive sequences... keep readers locked into the intense and exciting narrative." — Publishers Weekly, starred review

Bite by Bite: American History Through Feasts, Foods, and Side Dishes (with Paul Freedman)
★ “. . . Aronson and Freedman here set out a cultural anthropology of American cuisine sure to please history buffs and foodies alike. . . . There’s plenty of depth and context in each short chapter to leave readers satisfied, while end-of-chapter asides (dubbed 'Side Dishes') offer palette cleansers that focus mostly on the origins of specific foods.”  – The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, starred review

If Stones Could Speak: Unlocking the Secrets of Stonehenge (with Mike Parker-Pearson)
★  "A uniquely perceptive look at how real science works, this covers a topic whose fascination derives in no small part from the interplay between the mysteries of the unknown and the excitement of new discovery."  – Booklist, starred review
