The Maplewood Theater: The Show Must Go On

Join us for the first public screening of the film and Q&A with the local student filmmakers!

Join the Maplewood Library and South Mountain Film Academy for the premiere of "The Maplewood Theater: The Show Must Go On," a short documentary shot and produced by the program’s Winter 2026 Documentary class. Made by local middle schoolers, the documentary explores the history of the Maplewood Theater and features interviews with local officials, business owners, and residents about the much-anticipated return of the movie theater, which closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the event, there will be a Q&A with Christopher Cassidy, founder of the South Mountain Film Academy, and the student documentary filmmakers. A seasoned filmmaker, Cassidy will talk about how to navigate a career in the industry as well as New Jersey’s rising reputation as the “Hollywood East.” Members of the Maplewood Film Society will also be on hand to answer questions.

Admission is free. Attendance is first come, first served.
