Encouraging Young Poets
This 4-week program for middle schoolers will explore different types of poetry, including haiku, sonnet, blank verse, and free verse. Lessons will cover historical significance, traditional structure, and grammar conventions for types of poetry. Students will write their own poetry, as well as having the opportunity to create art based on the subjects of their poems.
Additionally, students will read excerpts from famous poetic works, such as The Odyssey, Ozymandias, The Road Not Taken, Jabberwocky, We Real Cool, and more. These landmarks of literature can serve as sources of inspiration for the students’ writing.
