The Ideas Festival celebrates the talent and creativity of our community.
The Maplewood Library and the Maplewood Film Society are partnering for an exclusive Maplewood screening of the award-winning documentary, The Librarians.
The film will be followed by a discussion featuring librarian Martha Hickson and local author Marina Budhos, about the film and the wave of alarming book bannings sweeping our nation.This event is free, but a ticket is required.
Marina Budhos is the author of several award-winning books for young adults and adults. Her YA novel, We Are All We Have, was a Best Kirkus Book. Previous novels include Watched, The Long Ride, Tell Us We’re Home, and Ask Me No Questions, recipient of numerous honors. She has also published three works of nonfiction, including her co-authored books with husband Marc Aronson, Sugar Changed the World, an LA Times Book Finalist and Eyes of the World: Robert Capa, Gerda Taro & The Invention of Modern Photojournalism, both of which were YALSA Nonfiction Finalists. She has received an NEA Literature Fellowship, a Rona Jaffe Award for Women Writers, three Fellowships from the New Jersey Council on the Arts, has been a Fulbright Scholar to India, is a professor emerita at William Paterson University. She serves as a We Need Diverse Books mentor and Board member for Pen Parentis, an organization supporting parent writers.
